Success on a Massive Scale: Library Cards for All Students

Based on the experiences of Northern California libraries we will show you just how easy it is to get library cards into the hands of all the students in your local school in one fell swoop. Learn all that you need to create a successful library card drive using bulk data exchange with your local public school district. Participants will be given tools and basic steps that will allow them to replicate our success.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Be familiar with several successful paths to completing a library card drive 2: Be able to craft a memorandum of understanding, using multiple example documents, that serves to protect the privacy of the students involved 3: Anticipate the challenges and issues regarding library card drives with regards to buy in from parents and administrators

He is wedded to the idea that open source software and libraries belong together and will create a foundation for rapid iterative advancement in libraries.

Carol Frost is the Executive Director of the Peninsula Library System, a consortium of 35 libraries located in San Mateo, California. She is also the CEO of the Pacific Library Partnership, a cooperative library system comprised of the eight counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has a passion for technology and how it can improve people's lives, a love for adult and early literacy and enjoys finding new ways to help patrons.
Katie Leach, Educational Services Coordinator -Student Success Initiative Grant

Katie Leach is the Educational Services Coordinator for the Student Success Initiative grant, administered by PLP. She also works at Shasta Community College as a Reference and Instruction Librarian. Before working at the college, she helped plan and initiate Shasta Public Libraries school library partnerships. Working at both the public library and the within the educational landscape of the Shasta County has given her a wide perspective on the issues surrounding school - library partnerships.

Nina Lindsay is the Children's Services Coordinator for the Oakland Public Library, CA, and the 2017-18 President of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). She has published articles and children's book reviews in Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and Horn Book Magazine, and is currently a co-author of the blog Reading While White.

Nicole Pasini is the Deputy Director for Support Services at San Mateo County Libraries. Nicole has worked at San Mateo County Libraries since 2009, serving as Teen Librarian, Management Analyst for Library Training and Staff Development, Branch Manager, Library Services Manager for Community Libraries, and Deputy Director for Community Libraries. Nicole received her undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from Colorado College and her Master?s in Library Science from the University of Arizona.
