What happens when Public Library CEOs build strong working relationships with School District Superintendents and Chief Elected Officials? Students in their shared jurisdiction gain streamlined access to valuable public library learning resources. Join this session to learn about the Leaders Library Card Challenge and hear from libraries that are stepping up to the challenge, partnering with schools to facilitate student access to resources. Gain practical strategies for establishing intentional working partnerships with your school systems.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Learn about a national initiative that grew out of President Obama's challenge to library directors, school superintendents, and chief elected officials to ensure that every student in their shared jurisdiction has a library card and therefore access to critical learning resources. 2: Gain practical solutions to overcome obstacles that prevent student access to library materials such as creating virtual library cards and eliminating fines. 3: Consider workable strategies for building successful public library-school partnerships based on the experience of library leaders involved in the Challenge.
