Growing a Regional Studies Center
Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM
Pennsylvania Convention Center, 111 AB
To connect our past and present and to celebrate the history and culture of the region, Blount County (TN) Public Library has initiated a Southern Appalachian Studies program. This growing project includes a speaker series, a creative-nonfiction writing course, collection development, a rotating display, a published anthology of original local work and a book club. We see libraries as playing a dynamic role in regional culture, not just for its preservation.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Understand the steps required to establish a regional studies center 2: Adapt these steps to various regions and sizes of libraries 3: Explain the value of a regional studies center to a library's community
The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.
This session will have: Medium interaction (example: single speaker/panel with questions or discussion throughout)
Track: Collaborate
