Drag queens reading to children? Program organizers, with librarians from Brooklyn Public Library, will discuss this remarkable and important initiative that promotes acceptance and inclusivity.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Learn best practices for setting up Drag Queen Story Hours in their locations. 2: Be prepared with strategies and language to explain and, if necessary, defend groundbreaking and potentially controversial programming. 3: Know which titles best support a program for young children exploring gender fluidity.

Lisa Goldstein is the manager of the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Youth Wing, which serves youth from birth through high school. She has served on the Young Adult Library Services Association?s Great Graphic Novels for Teens committee, and has chaired the Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults committee. She reviews children's graphic novels and fiction for School Library Journal, and co-authored the paper "Are You There God? It?s Me, Manga," published in Young Adult Library Services.
Kat Savage, Children's Librarian

Kat Savage is a children's librarian in Red Hook, Brooklyn. She first brought Drag Queen Story Hour to the Park Slope branch of Brooklyn Public Library after learning about the initiative from a community member.
Leigh Fox, Assistant Division Chief, Central Youth Wing

Leigh Fox has worked in the Youth Services departments of public libraries for eleven years. Originally hailing from libraries on the West Coast of Florida, she also worked at the Washington D.C Public Library before ending up in New York City. Leigh is currently the Assistant Manager at the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Youth Wing, where you will find her conducting a variety of programs and services for youth of all ages.
