The Wonderful World of Being a First-time Director
Thursday, March 22, 2018, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Pennsylvania Convention Center, 109 AB
Starting any new job comes with its joys and challenges, but becoming a director for the first-time and finding yourself at the top of the org chart presents an especially intense experience of learning new lessons about yourself and libraries. This session will provide honest insights from three recently hired new public library directors. Leadership and management lessons will be shared, and attendees will have an opportunity to pose questions to the panelists.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Understand how to strategically diagnose organizational needs and prioritize individual and collective focus 2: Be able to intentionally and effectively direct attention and energy to move forward on identified priorities 3: Be able to use Bowman and Deal's four frames of leadership (Structural, HR, Political, Symbolic) to assess and improve personal leadership effectiveness
The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.
This session will have: Low interaction (example: single speaker/panel with Q&A at the end of the program)
