Concurrent Program Session

Beyond the Turnstile: Toward Richer Models for Impact Assessment

Friday, March 23, 2018, 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM

Pennsylvania Convention Center, 108 AB

Libraries need valid and reliable ways to assess their impact. Traditional measures, such as gate/turnstile counts, circulation and program attendance, are still widely used. With heavy reliance on programs, new measures are needed to demonstrate the impact libraries have in their communities. Attendees of this session will hear how leaders in top U.S. urban public libraries assess programs outcomes and put those assessments to work in advocacy.

At the end of this session, participants will:

1: Understand the limitations of traditional approaches to outcomes assessment
2: Know what the nation's top library systems are doing to innovate in assessment
3: Apply fresh ideas when assessing the libraries' impact

The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.

This session will have: Medium interaction (example: single speaker/panel with questions or discussion throughout)
