Making Digital Inclusion a Priority in Your Community

As the digital divide continues to grow and impact communities, digital inclusion becomes common ground. San Antonio (TX) Public Library began creating partnerships to build a plan to make digital inclusion a priority. Partners include: Google Fiber, Goodwill Industries, San Antonio Housing Authority, and Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Efforts led to a Digital Inclusion Summit in San Antonio. This panel will cover how they came together and the meaningful outcomes that resulted from a multi-faceted partnership.

At the end of this session, participants will:

1: Have a better understanding of the digital divide and digital inclusion 2: Be able to identify at least two digital inclusion partners in their community 3: Have several tips on how to engage partners to offer a digital inclusion summit

Candelaria Mendoza has over 16 years of library experience and has led the development and implementation of many projects and programs in public libraries. As the library services administrator at San Antonio Public Library she led the digital inclusion efforts for the system.

Richard Milk, Director of Policy and Planning, San Antonio Housing Authority
San Antonio Housing Authority , San Antonio , TX

Richard has led the San Antonio Housing Authority's strategic planning efforts and Moving to Work (MTW) planning and reporting, as well as serving as SAHA's representative for various interagency efforts. Under his policy activities, he has represented SAHA at local, state and national forums, advocating for affordable housing issues. Prior to joining SAHA, Richard served as a Community Development Manager for the City of San Antonio.

Jordana Barton, Senior Advisor
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas , San Antonio , TX

Jordana Barton supports the Federal Reserve System's economic growth objectives by promoting community and economic development and fair and impartial access to credit. Her focus areas include the Community Reinvestment Act, digital inclusion, financial education, affordable housing, workforce development, and small business development. Jordana has also authored several publications: "Las Colonias in the 21st Century: Progress Along the Texas-Mexico Border" (2015), and "Closing the Digital Divide: A Framework for Meeting CRA Obligations" (2016).

Haley Holmes, Coordinator of Services to Adults
San Antonio Public Library , San Antonio , TX

Haley Holmes is the Coordinator of Services to Adults for the San Antonio Public Library. She oversees all programming for adults for the Library system and coordinates the four LEARN @ SAPL adult learning centers.

Cancellation Policy

The PLA 2018 Conference is offered on a cost-recovery basis. PLA reserves the right to cancel all or any part of this event if there is insufficient registration or for other reasons. Neither ALA nor PLA is responsible for cancellation charges assessed by the airlines or travel agencies, or other losses incurred due to the cancellation of the workshops. All information listed on this website is subject to change.

Attendee Cancellation Policy

Written cancellations, requests for refunds, and/or changes will be accepted until February 23, 2018, and are subject to a $30 handling fee. Refunds will be processed after April 23, 2018. According to PLA policy, all meal events require preregistration. The above cancellation/change information also applies to all preconferences, meal events, and tours. No meal tickets will be sold onsite.

Exhibitor Cancellation Policy

All booth space cancellation requests must be received in writing by Show Management (Corcoran Expositions). If space is reduced, the net reduction of space will be treated as a cancellation of that space. If Show Management receives a written request for cancellation of space on or before October 31, 2017, the exhibitor will be eligible for a refund less the nonrefundable deposit of $950 per 100 square feet of exhibit space. For cancellations received after October 31, 2017, exhibitors are liable for 100% of the cost of space.
