The Accidental Trainer: Teaching Technology in a Modern Public Library
Thursday, March 22, 2018, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Pennsylvania Convention Center, 113 ABC
With the increasing demand for digital literacy classes in public libraries, librarians are having to create and deliver content with little training or guidance. Experts from PLA and Gail Borden Public Library (Elgin, IL) have created resources using adult learning principles, instructional design methodology, and best practices from the training industry. These tools will help you design high-quality classes and provide digital literacy instruction–in person and online–with confidence and ease.
An online version of this concurrent program session was also presented during the PLA 2018 Virtual Conference.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Be able to implement time-saving strategies for developing technology classes
2: Understand how basic instructional design and adult learning principles create strong learning experiences
3: Be able to deliver live and online technology classes for library patrons using free, accessible resources
The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.
This session will have: Low interaction (example: single speaker/panel with Q&A at the end of the program)
