What Having a WIC Center in Your Library Brings (Besides Crying Babies)
Thursday, March 22, 2018, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Pennsylvania Convention Center, 111 AB
A partnership with the City of Houston’s Health and Human Services Department, placed a fully operational mini-WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Center inside a neighborhood library. Training and meeting spaces are constant programming spaces where both HPL and WIC provide targeted family programming that promotes family engagement, caregiver education and learning for all ages, from storytimes to after school activities to nutrition classes for pregnant women and workshops and classes for new parents.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Have an awareness of the variety of shared programs that can be offered in a joint use facility. 2: Effectively interact with partnership staff, utilize partner's experts or others in order to collaboratively produce programs for various audiences. 3: Know how to do "in-reach" to traditional non-library users who come to the library for WIC services
The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.
This session will have: Medium interaction (example: single speaker/panel with questions or discussion throughout)
